Description

Coriander is also known as Cilantro A very popular culinary herb. In the Mediterranean region the seeds of coriander have been utilised as a food, as a spice and as a medicine since ancient times. The leaves are used as a flavouring in Asian and Middle Eastern cooking. Seeds and fresh roots are part of the curries of India. Seeds are also used as a folk remedy for indigestion and poor appetite. The essential oil is used in aromatherapy and in the manufacture of incense and perfume. Bees are attracted to the white flowers. Used in a garden spray to control red spider mite. Note: The seeds are narcotic when used in excess. Coriander is a native of south Europe and prefers light to medium, well drained soils in an open sunny position. Drought and frost tender. An annual plant, growing to 0.6m x 0.5m. Sow in early spring.
