English Hawthorn, Crataegus monogyna, is sometimes known as Wild Hawthorn. English Hawthorn is a thorny bush to small tree that are part of the traditional hedgerows in England. Makes an impenetrable hedge and produces a mass of showy blossoms in spring. The leaves, flowers and berries make a tea or tincture that is revered in treating heart conditions. American Hawthorn is native to Europe and widely grown in America, being adaptable to most soils in an open sunny position. Drought and frost resistant. A deciduous tree, growing to 8m x 3m.
