Description
Heartsease, Viola tricolour, is also known as Pansy and Johnny-Jump-Up. Heartsease is attractive and dainty; the sight of this plant in flower never fails to bring ease the heart. Flowers, leaves and roots are used as a remedy for bronchitis, constipation, rheumatism and urinary tract infections. The edible flowers are also used in salads and as a garnish. Heartsease is a native of the UK. and is adaptable to most soils and prefers an open, sunny position. The dainty flowers are yellow, blue and violet, appearing in spring and summer. Frost resistant but drought tender. An annual or perennial plant, growing to 0.5m x 0.5m.
