Description
Golden Purslane, Portulaca oleracea sativa, is a golden coloured form of Purslane. Selected for its large and succulent leaves, aka French Gold Purslane. Purslane is an excellent salad and pot herb. A rich terrestrial source of vitamins, minerals and Omega -3 fatty acids, considered important for strengthening the immune system and preventing heart attack. Used medicinally to clear toxins, lower cholesterol, reduce fevers and heal rashes. The whole plant mashed makes a soothing poultice for sore eyes or sore nipples. Purslane is a native of inland Australia and adaptable to most soils but prefers and open, sunny position. Drought and frost resistant. A perennial ground cover, growing to 0.25m x 0.5m.
Good summer salad or vegetable, performing best in hot weather. Much improved over its wild relative. Leaves are a light golden colour.
