Description
Wild Thyme, Thymus serpylum, is also known as Mother Of Thyme, Shakespeare’s Thyme, Creeping Thyme. Wild Thyme is a very pungent spice and useful medicinal plant (see Garden Thyme). The true and original wild thyme, its flavour is not as good as some subsequent cultivars, but medicinally it is very significant. An ideal thyme for rockeries, between stepping stones and dry slopes. Wild Thyme is a native of Europe and prefers well drained soils in an open sunny position. Flowers bluish purple in spring and summer. Drought and frost resistant. A perennial ground cover growing to 0.2m x 0.25m.
