Herb Bennett plant, Geum urbanum, is sometimes known as Avens. A handsome rhizome based plant that produces tiny yellow flowers from spring to winter. The aromatic root is clove scented and used as a spice in cooking. Leaves are traditionally used in salads and soups. Magical qualities were once associated with the roots. A strong tea is used as an astringent mouthwash to treat sore gums, mouth ulcers and bad breath. Herb Bennet plant is also known as:Avens. Native of Russia, Europe and the UK, Avens prefers light to medium, well drained soils in an open, sunny position. Frost resistant but drought tender. A perennial plant, growing to 0.30m x 0.45m.
