Description

Liquorice plant roots have long been used as a base for sweets. The root is 50 times sweeter than sugar but can be consumed by diabetics. Used to sweeten drinks and flavour foods. Assists in quenching thirst. An essential herbal treatment for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, gastric ulcer or adrenal exhaustion. Chewing the root helps to quit smoking. A very useful culinary and medicinal plant. Liquorice plant, Glycyrrhiza glabra, is a native of south east Europe and prefers moist, sandy soils in an open sunny position. Flowers are yellow, blue, violet or white and occur in early summer. Drought and frost tender. A deciduous perennial plant, growing to a height of 1m.
