Motherwort, Leonurus cardiaca, is a folk remedy to regulate menstrual pain, to encourage menstruation, to normalise menstruation and to assist in childbirth. Also a remedy to regulate heart beat and associated anxiety. Downy pink flowers attract bees to the garden. The plant produces a dark green dye. Motherwort is a native of Europe and is adaptable to most well drained soils in an open, sunny position. Flowers are pink or white and appear in late summer. Frost resistant but drought tender. A perennial plant, growing to 1m x 1m.
