Description

Wintergreen plant, Gaultheria procumbens, is also known as Teaberry or Gandapura. The American Indians used the dried leaves of Wintergreen as a remedy for aching joints. Contemporary use as a remedy for headaches, inflammation and acute rheumatism. The essential oil used as a flavouring in mouthwash and toothpaste. May be grown as a ground cover. Wintergreen plant is native to northern USA and Canada. Prefers sandy, well-drained soils in a partially shaded position. White bell shaped flowers in summer. Drought and frost resistant. A perennial vine, growing to 0.2m x 2.0m.
